Heavenly Desserts is the absolute shit. You’ll walk in, and they may tell you to wait half hour. Wait! It’s worth it! The claim is that a visit to Heavenly Desserts is a journey, and in my experience, it certainly is a journey to dessert heaven. You can trust the name on the signage, they are not practising false advertising!

The Vibe

No matter what time of day or night I walk past Heavenly Desserts it is full. And I mean, always full. It seems to be a popular haunt with foreign students living in the city and looking for a sweet treat and some coffees with friends, for youngsters coming into town for the afternoon, with tourists on their way back from a trip round the Albert Dock, and locals after a cracking pud after dinner. It is a simple environment – bright lights, warm smiles, comfortable seats, pleasant plates, sumptuous desserts, fast service. There is a real production line to how Heavenly Desserts works, as it is always so busy and there is such a high and fast turnover of tables. Despite this, you never feel rushed, and you have time to savour the delights on your plate.

The Food

This writer bloody loves chocolate. Can’t get enough of it. A trip to Heavenly Desserts is quite frankly an utterly joyous experience for me. Over the course of my many visits to this edge of L1/Albert Dock-facing dessert palace (I think it’s fair to call it that), I’ve tried the gooey fudge brownies, the cookie dough selection, the crepes drizzled with warm Belgian chocolate sauce and topped with fresh chopped strawberries, sampled the waffles with various white, dark, and milk chocolate drizzling’s, and always gone for the accompanying scoop of gelato. Nothing like it, absolutely nothing.

The Price

It might be a bit pricy when you compare it to other dessert places, but frankly it is far better than those other chain dessert places, like Kaspa’s and Creams (RIP) where the focus seems to be more on the outrageous décor and the flavours and topping aimed at making young children go wild! The simplistic, adult approach at Heavenly Desserts is welcome in that context. For most of the main dessert dishes you’ll be paying between a fiver and £8, but it’ll be worth it as an occasional treat.
