Cash, Credit Cards (inc American Express)Positioned on one of the city’s busiest roads for through-traffic, once you step inside the Tokyo Noodle Bar you encounter something entirely different; serene surroundings, authentic Asian cuisine and a real family-run feel.
With a decor full of authentic Asian art and a very friendly staff team, they really do make you feel right at home as they serve up a feast. This is a place I’ve been to at least 5 times in the past couple of years, such is the quality of service and food delivered at great prices.
Food Rundown
They offer a quality range of choices to put together your ideal plate, with all the favourites you’d expect from a Chinese restaurant with a team of chefs who are as ‘seasoned’ as their dishes.
With this in mind, one of the most popular options on the menu is the ‘build-your-own’ selection, which allows you to choose from base options including plain rice, egg fried rice and noodles. Then add in your meat of choice, and select from cooking styles ranging from sweet and sour to black bean to teriyaki.
Tokyo also have a range of different options in terms of sides, with all of the favourites you’d expect from a team who have been cooking Chinese food as a passion as well as their job.
We’ll now let you into a secret, one that not everyone is aware of when they step inside, which is that there are essentially two Tokyos within one. Downstairs you get your main Chinese meals, then upstairs there is an equally appealing cafe with various cakes, teas and smoothies.
The Cost
The excellent value for money is a clear attraction of this restaurant, with most side dishes in the £2-3 range, main meals for £7-8 and all of the drinks, from beers to soft drinks also available at some of the best prices of any restaurant in the city centre.
In terms of the upstairs cafe, you can get cake slices for around £2, a variety of different tea options for around the same price, and smoothies for around £3-4, which when you see them, you will realise is a belter of a deal!
The Bottom Line
If you’re looking for good quality food, swift service and some of the friendliest staff you’ll meet anywhere in the city, then we’d recommend putting Tokyo right near the top of your list.
