What’s Cooking? is the longest running restaurant down at the Albert Dock. When you consider how that area of town has transformed and evolved over the years, and the number of restaurants that have started with great promise and faded away, it shows what a great job the What’s Cooking? team does! If it’s big plates of burgers, ribs, and steaks that you want, it’s the place to be.

The Vibe

All of the cafés and restaurants that are located in the Albert Dock are lucky to have use of the stunning framework of the dock. The Grade I listed Queen Elizabeth Hall overlooks the Dock, with the Three Graces and the Museum of Liverpool beyond. It is an extremely comfortable restaurant to sample American Soul food, and is perfect for tourists, those with young families, or looking for a quick bite to eat after a long day of trekking around town and seeing the sights. There’s also a great cocktail menu, so if you fancy making a night of it, you can do so in the right way at this iconic location.

The Food

The menu is based around fast and easy food for tourists on the whole, yet What’s Cooking? is often listed as one of the best places to get a burger in Liverpool, and for that alone it’s worth a side-step out of the tourist hullabaloo and into the bright and breezy restaurant. The portions are big, and the flavours pack a punch, with contemporary takes on the classic soul food cuisine. If there is anything that we would suggest you head on down to What’s Cooking? for then it is definitely for either there big burger menu (we mean big in choice and size), and the speciality ribs (the slow roasted pork ribs, and the rib and wing platter bring the sense of anticipation to the occasion whenever you visit).

The Price

There’s always some sort of promotion on at What’s Cooking? Bringing that simple soul food to you at a good price. They have a breakfast club and then special offers, such as the ‘Burger and Rib Combo’ for just £10.95.  Off the main menu, you’ll pick up the starters for between £5 and £8, burgers are all under £15, and the steaks are between £20 and £25.
