It’s fair to say that we love Cafe Tabac, an institution of quality Liverpool cuisine and a place that gives you a good feeling every time you walk through the doors. Situated at the top of Bold Street, this eatery is still a standout option in an area where it seems a new restaurant is opening every week. Cafe Tabac has a long-held character and personality that sets it apart from many of the chain restaurants and the new range of popups that have appeared in recent years. The interior manages to be dark and mysterious without being dingy or miserable. It has a very cool feel and also runs regular film nights which are a real bonus. It’s a setting that clearly has an eye for art, as evidenced by pieces such as the JH Lynch painting “Rita” which was a staple on the wall of many Liverpool homes.

The Food

Let’s begin with one of the most important points on many an eatery; the full English breakfast! It’s fair to say that Cafe Tabac has built a reputation amongst many for offering one of the best breakfasts in the entirety of Liverpool. There’s a wide choice of items and, most importantly, every element is cooked to perfection, as evidenced by the diverse range of clients that arrive for a taste of the Tabac brekkie, from guys in three-piece suits fueling up for a day of meetings, to hipster couples spending more time photographing their food than eating it. Beyond that, Cafe Tabac is also known for options such as its Jerk Chicken Burger and the Sea Bass, both of which are mouthwatering options worth coming back for time and again. They offer a wide range of local and international drinks at very fair rates, but do it all with that local charm that only “Rita” and the team can provide.

The Vibe

Cafe Tabac is definitely one of the leading options for anyone looking for genuinely quality food at a fair price and with a bit of local character. We can’t recommend it enough, whether as a quick stop-off for a drink, a dinner out for a couple or a slightly larger group booking of 4-6. It’s one of the first eateries you’ll see if you arrive at the top of Bold Street, but once you’ve stepped inside, you won’t need to look anywhere else. It’s also worth knowing that once nighttime arrives, it transforms into a slightly different beast, with film nights and a tip-top cocktail menu making it a great place for a date.

The Price

Very reasonable overall. Their high-quality breakfast is in the £7-8 range, while their mains are available in the £9-12 field, meaning that it’s quite doable for a couple to enjoy a meal out for around £30.
