We’ve been big fans of Leaf in its various locations, from the small Roscoe Lane, over to the Baltic Triangle and back into town at its main Bold Street location. It has since gone on to open up successful sister venues throughout town, out on Smithdown Road, in Manchester, and soon to be on the Wirral too. With a fantastic range of loose-leaf tea, great food, and a space that lends itself to multiple events, this trendy bar is a staple of Bold Street culture.

The Vibe

Leaf began life as a small, independent tea shop, focusing on a wide variety of tasty loose-leaf teas and paraphernalia to help you get the best out of your experience. It has developed into something else now on top of that, adding layer upon layer of service and produce, without losing that essence that made it great in the first place (and they serve an even wider range of teas now – which you can buy to take home with you). The bohemian and laid-back feel throughout the Bold Street and the brand-new Smithdown Road venue, is what brings people back time and again. There is plenty of space to sit with friends on sofas or larger tables, and there are regular open mic nights, gigs, life drawing classes, pudding clubs, book clubs, vintage clothing fairs, and much more. One of the TiL team is even celebrating a wedding in the upstairs space. It’s a community hub that is simply dressed in loads of fairy lights and that ‘hipster’ vibe that exudes confidence and calm.

The Food

The breakfast and brunch menu offers up one of the best breakfasts in the city centre – with a plate full of hangover-busting food that will get you through the day. The Big Bold Street Breakfast is great, but there must be mention of the incredible Turkish eggs on the brunch menu.  The lighter lunches, including salads, soups, tasty halloumi sandwiches and other similar dishes are inventive, simple, and tasty, whilst there is an extensive small plates and big mains selection on the evening menu. These include jerk lamb rump, the Leaf veggie burger, the South American spiced stew, and the falafel and halloumi flatbread. A wide range of good food, to suit all tastes.

If you’re into tea, or want to try it, there are over 50 varieties of loose-leaf tea for sale at Leaf, and you can even join a subscription service. There is nowhere else in Liverpool where you can get the same quality of tea as in Leaf, and they are right to say; ‘Where there’s tea, there’s hope!”

The Price

The breakfast menu has big plates that are priced between £7 and £11, and lighter breakfast options from £3 to £7. After breakfast, the sandwiches are all reasonably priced under a fiver, and the soup of the day only £4.50. The big main dishes are all priced from around £9 to £14, whilst there is also an extensive small plates section with each plate around the £6 or £7 mark. Most of the loose-leaf tea is priced at £2.55.
