This perfect little café bar on the edge of Chinatown provides a delightful spot to sit and relax, have that anonymous moment to yourself and sink into the background for a bit. With great bar snacks that you expect to find when wandering the Parisienne backstreets, a range of authentic cocktails, and live Jazz and Swing bands, the little café on the corner will soon be your new favourite haunt.

The Vibe

French. Surprisingly though, not French in a tacky or ‘try-hard’ kind of way. It feels authentic and warm. Liverpool might actually be the perfect town for a little French café, because it’s always likely that you’ll need a little bolthole to get out of the wind and rain, and this little café on the corner certainly provides that friendly welcome. It just kinda feels warm, as if there’s a fire roaring, even though there isn’t, if you know what we mean? The clean, deep wooden furniture, and fresh greenery potted around the café help it feel fresh.

The team behind Petit Café du Coin want things to remain simple and of the highest quality, and it lives up to that billing. It’s a great place to stop off for a cup of tea or coffee in the afternoon with a book in hand, or sit and watch the Jazz and Swing bands that play regularly every Thursday to Sunday (lending a real backstreet French café/bar vibe to this part of Liverpool.

The Food and Drink

There is something very French about finding a tiny café bar where you can strike up a good conversation with the staff whilst sat at the bar, and be served up an entire platter of tasty food masquerading as bar snacks. Bar snacks is never a generous enough term for what is plonked down in front of you though, and Petit Café du Coin lives up to its inspiration. The ‘Bar Snacks’ include moreish spiced nuts, bread and oil, olives, a selection of cheeses and hams, and the freshest, crustiest bread.

For drinks, there is a wide range of options both alcoholic and non-alcoholic, from your regular selection of hot drinks in any café setting, to hot serves, such as the Parisienne Hot Chocolate, classic cocktails, such as Sazerac or Daiquiri, or a special range of house cocktails to sample.

The Price

A selection of coffee, teas, and hot chocolate all around the £2.50 mark. The bar snacks start at £2 for spiced nuts and go as high as £14.90 for the meat and cheese board, but that is an extravagant affair and well worth that price! Premium bottles of lager are priced between £4 and £5, with classic cocktails and house specials priced under a tenner.
